Here are 6 reasons why our clients choose the in-home newborn photography session in Vancouver and Lower Mainland. And why it is worth considering if you have a new baby on the way:

1.No Travel Needed:

Getting photos without having to leave your house?! Doesn’t that sound amazing? We know how difficult it is to leave the house with a newborn. If you have a toddler at home as well, frankly it’s like war! Parents need to shower and get ready one at a time, get dressed, do hair and make up. Then you have to feed before you leave, while the other parent packs a bag and makes sure you aren’t forgetting anything. Then you dress your baby. And as you are finally about to leave, there is a diaper emergency and you have to do the whole routine again. Not to mention the carseat challenge. And now you are late for your appointment! I hear this story almost every time at my newborn sessions. Now some parents got a hang of this, or they don’t mind the routine, hats off to you. But for those of you who get exhausted just thinking about this outing, and there is no way you are going through this to get photos done, you should consider an in-home session, where you just wait at your home and I come to you. All you need to do is feed baby prior to the session and we take care of the rest. You don’t even have to clean up! If we need to move stuff around I’m happy to help get clutter out of the picture. Also if you come from a culture that encourages new moms to stay at home for the first 30 days after delivery, especially in winter time, this is for you as well! You can get your baby pictures without having to leave the house.

2. Less Stressful Experience

Getting photos done at your home decreases your stress substantially. Leaving you more relaxed and letting you enjoy the session more. When you are relaxed you look better in photos. Being at home gives you the chance to take your time with getting ready. Moms often do their hair and make up when I’m photographing baby or doing dady/baby shots. You can also have a snack while I’m busy with baby! In other words this can be a regular day in your week and you don’t have to spend time to plan for it.

3. Perfect for Families with Toddlers

In my experience 2-4 year olds are the most difficult to photograph! Especially if they just got a new baby sister/brother and the parents’ attention is suddenly divided. It is a new adjustment for them and 2 weeks is not enough time for them to get used to this new baby. That is why they are often cranky at the session and don’t want to listen. On top of that the studio is a new place they want to explore, and often their food and nap schedule is not followed on the day of the shoot. When you do the session at your home, your toddler will be more relaxed. Everything is familiar for them, they are happy and they can always take a break to play in their room when they get fussy. In a few minutes they are recharged and excited to be included in the photos again.

4. Lifestyle Images

My in-home sessions are considered Lifestyle photo sessions. Meaning that we won’t be using extensive props and posing. Our focus will be on your family and your relationship with your new baby. It will be like I’m documenting a normal day in your life, holding baby, cuddles, laughter and joy. I do a mix of candid shots and posed shots when I tell you where to look and how to hold baby. We can do the photos on your bed, on the couch, standing by a window, and some in the nursery. We will use the natural light in your home to create that beautiful lifestyle look. And I normally use your swaddles and blankets for baby so that everything symbolizes your family and looks less staged. Some parents ask us to incorporate some images with props and we are happy to provide that as well. You get to choose how you want your final images to look like, but for the most part we want to tell the story of your family and your love for your newborn through a mix of documentary and posed imagery.

5. Takes Less Time

Since we won’t be doing lots of wrapped and posed images, the in-home session takes less time. Not having to perfect every pose allows to me work quicker. A typical in-home session takes about 1.5 hours. And during that time we can take pictures of baby and include family photos as well. Where as a studio session takes around 2.5 – 3 hours plus the commute time. That means you will have more time for napping during the day!

6. Done Within the First Month

This is one of the biggest advantages of the in-home session! A regular studio newborn session has to be done between 5-14 days after birth. If we wait longer than that babies lose their flexibility, the feeding time is longer, baby acne starts to show and tummy aches are more common. After 14 days it becomes very difficult to pose babies in certain ways and to get the perfect studio shots that we want. But an in-home photo shoot is a lifestyle session and we go with the flow of baby, capturing the natural movements and positioning. We also focus more on family photos where you hold baby so it’s not a big deal if they are fussy. This allows me to do in-home newborn sessions within the first month after birth. If you are the type of mom who needs time to recover, wants to get a hang of things before getting photos done and you don’t feel comfortable with taking pictures of your baby in the first 2 weeks, this is the perfect option for you. Also if you forgot about booking a session before your delivery and now bay is here and there is no time for studio session bookings you will still have time to book an in-home session for the next couple of weeks.

You can contact us for inquiries and pricing. To make it easier for you we offer the same packages for the in-home session that we do for our studio sessions. Travel fees may apply depending on the area you live.
