In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Vancouver
An in-home newborn session is the perfect way to capture the story of your family during the first few weeks after birth. For many parents the idea of getting out of the house and spending 3 hours in a photo studio, only weeks after their baby is born, might be very stressful and maybe even scary. I see that a lot in families who are experiencing being parents for the first time. I also know that some cultures require the mom and baby to stay at home for 30-40 days after birth, especially in summer time. And some people just prefer the laid back, lifestyle look of photos done at their home.
No matter what your reason, I believe that an in-home session is a beautiful way to get your family some gorgeous newborn photos without the hassle of getting out of the house. Our in-home sessions are shorter and simpler than the studio sessions. There are no extensive posing and wrapping, so the session can be done any time within the first month after birth.
We take lots of family shots in the comfort of your home, either on the sofa or in the master bedroom. Then we move on to natural and simple photos of baby on its own. This can be done in the nursery or on the bed again. I try to tell the story of your family by incorporating your unique environment and household items. I usually use the family’s swaddles, blankets, stuffed animals, books, etc. The list goes on! We can use whatever you like that has a significance to your family! Or we can keep it simple and modern.
I often bring a couple of props and wraps, a basket and a flokati fur rug to take a few posed shots for parents who are looking for a bit of variety.
The only thing you have to be careful about before planning on an in-home session is the amount of natural light in your home. The lifestyle newborn sessions has to be done using the ambient light and we require some windows close to the areas that we want to take the pictures in. Always consult with your photographer prior to the session about the light availability so there are no surprises and you don’t end up with super grainy photos.
